Hey everyone – Cameron here.
For those of you who recently signed up on the website, welcome! For those of you who have been following along elsewhere, we’re moving over from ConvertKit to Substack!
In either case, I’m excited to have you all here following along the journey to build the next great World's Fair. I’m still trying to figure out the right cadence with this newsletter and what to share and when.
Instead of worrying about getting *everything* right, we’re just going to ship things and experiment — please send feedback on what you like / don’t like!
Today, we have three cool things to share.
1) The World’s Fair / Build The Future Podcast
Today, we’re introducing the next season of the podcast where we’ll interview not just the builders, but also the thinkers, creatives, and storytellers working to create a world of abundance and beauty.
This week, we’re releasing our conversation with Eliot Peper, the novelist behind the (incredible) scifi thrillers Reap3r, Veil, and Bandwidth. Next week, we’ll host Don Clark — the brilliant creative behind Invisible Creature & the World’s Fair posters!
2) A treasure hunt on Treasure Island
As a weekend experiment, we launched a physical geocache experience in San Francisco: WorldsFairGeocache.com.
This experience takes you out to Treasure Island, the man-made island built for the 1939 World’s Fair, to find 4 geocaches (hidden puzzles) with clues that lead you to the “treasure”…
We’re giving limited edition prints of the World’s Fair Co. posters to the first 3 people to find it — good luck!
(Hint: Make sure to take the Treasure Island Ferry...)
3) SF Event Series + Open Roles
Now that we’re back in San Francisco, we’re designing a series of exciting events and gatherings that will kick off in January.
Right now, we’re looking for 1-2 more generalists (i.e. exceptionally resourceful & tech-savvy) to help out part time to bring a few things to life. Strong preference for in-person in SF. If that’s you, hit reply. Let’s talk!
Bonus: Tours of Treasure Island!
I personally want to run an experiment where twice a month I host a World’s Fair themed guided tour of the treasure hunt and of Treasure Island as an Airbnb Experience.
But first — I need to get a couple practice reps AND photos.
This weekend (Saturday 11/19) I’m taking two groups out at 9:30am and 1pm — starting at the Ferry Building. I have 4 slots left for each. Reach out if you want to come hang out, learn about the history of Treasure Island, and talk about World’s Fairs. (Saturday morning is also the farmers market… so if any of you are looking for a fun date activity I’m happy to host you and a +1!)
Onwards!
Cameron
p.s. Okay, one more bonus. Neil Soni hosted us on his new podcast Outside The System. This episode covered a lot of the backstory of the Fair and left Neil “with a sense of wonder about technology and the future.”
If you want to learn more about the project, get a concentrated dose of optimism, and hear how we’re thinking about things, this is a great place to start. Enjoy!
